Daerwynno Outdoor Centre

HRH Prince Charles visits Daerwynno Outdoor Centre2006 was a very exciting year for Daerwynno Outdoor Centre - an Environment Wales-registered project based in Ynysybwl, Pontypridd. The Centre received more than 1,800 visitors, many of whom took part in the environmental activities that are on offer - including H.R.H. Prince Charles, who tried pond dipping when he visited the Centre in May.

The Centre's Environmental Instructor, who is funded with the help of an Environment Wales Management Grant, has been instrumental in promoting the Centre and in supporting the young people who regularly visit to actively appreciate its natural surroundings. Young people have improved the area with litter picks, and recycling has become well-established.

Away from the Centre the Instructor and volunteers have put on activities and open days to give other visitors a little taste of the outdoors. The logging of flora and fauna is a regular activity and people are kept up to date with new finds in the Daerwynno Diaries, the quarterly newsletter.

The Centre's Christmas clean-up took place on Saturday 9 December and the big happening over the next few months is the development of a wild area adjacent to the Centre. The area will contain ponds, hides and a bird feeding station and is being developed with Cymru Lan and the Forestry Commission as partners.
